Han, we have a story on this. Type the word reporcelain into our search box and it should come right up.

Hi Han, recently I bought a marvelous Magic Chef stove and during the process of moving it bumped and fell breaking one of the bakelite handles and chipping the oven door. The bakelite handle it’s not easy to find but the parts to reporcelain are available thanks to a Californian company called Grapevinesally. They are specialized in old stoves and offer services of rechroming and reporcelaining with economical fares. Just type Grapevinesally on google and write them. They will send you a catalog with the prices for parts. I have to pay $99 to repair the whole oven door. I wish you luck

We have a kitchen probably from the 50’s. The St. Charles cabinets were messed up and we refinished them. They are in great shape with metal shelves. Our problem is the exhaust fan was custom made to fit over a drop in range and a charcoal grill that set in a 3’x 4′ (est) stainless counter. We are not sure if the fan was part of the St. Charles package and wonder if you have replacements? It has a huge hood and is very noisily! Thank you for your help.. Terri

Terri, we do not sell anything on this blog, we profile companies that do. You might try these folks – https://retrorenovation.com/2011/11/02/custom-range-hoods-with-scallops-and-other-decorative-scroll-edges-made-in-the-usa/

      Good luck.

First, I love your website and have found a lot of interesting information and links. Has anyone installed a vintage sink in modern cabinetry? The sink is 59.5″ long and sink base is 36″. I know it will have to extend over the dishwasher and another cabinet. We will be using either quartz or granite for countertop. I just want it to look integrated and not choppy. I think the sink is by Crane and is stamped 1947. Porcelain over cast iron. Does anyone know what the plug is under faucet? We are replacing the faucet that came with it. I looked for months and had a reproduction in my on line cart when I checked Craigslist one last time and found this beauty.

Hi Suzanne, I don’t know the answer about the plug.

Regarding blending old with new, I think this all just depends on your design… hard to say.

Thanks Pam. Your site inspired me to keep looking for my dream sink. I checked out historic house parts in Rochester, N.Y., but they did not have what I wanted. I saw my sink on one of your old blogs that was sold by them. The stone supplier just told me they have installed counters with an antique sink, so I am hopeful it will turn out well. I wish I could post a pic when done. So excited to have my new old kitchen in a few weeks.

I’m refinishing an old claw foot tub, and I’m not sure if I should take it all the way back to the porcelain or try to just sand the finish the best I can and go from there. Please help!!

We don’t give advice like this – consult with a pro. Also: Beware of lead in that finish! Again, consult with the pro.

I left the inside “as is” because it was smooth with no cracks or chips. But I sprayed painted the outside a shiny dark forest green and the feet a shiny black. It looked absolutely wonderful. I bought the spray can paint at Home Depot. It was a very inexpensive, yet rewarding project.

I can’t furnish pics because the tub was inside a girlfriend’s rental cottage behind her house and she has, since, sold her house … many years ago.

      Good luck,
      Pat
