Smeg refrigerators look great for smaller retro renovation kitchens

pam kueber - Updated: January 1, 2011

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

Smeg, a top Italian appliance manufacturer, recently introduced these small refrigerators to the American market. They are not inexpensive, at $1999, and they are not large, at 9.4 cu.ft., but they are as perfect as can be for a retro renovation kitchen. And look at the colors – robin’s egg blue, a soft green, orange for you 70s people, and yes, even pink.

And click here to see my other refrigerators identified as good possibilities for a Retro Renovation kitchen.

Here is a great site for retro appliances in North America.
    http://www.elmirastoveworks.com
They have 1950’s style refrigerators, stoves, etc. in a wonderful array of 1950’s colours.
They are gorgeous, but I can’t afford them!

I’m going to put a bounty out there: If someone can find US distribution on the Gorenje that’s less expensive than the SMEG I’ll ship them a bottle of their favorite libation. Think how tasty a martini will be when you didn’t pay for the bottle 🙂

    Sandra-
Is that site available in English? I would love one of those!

Have a look at these retro fridges, they’re nicer, bigger and less expensive than the Smeg :

    I bought one and I’m delighted !

If you like these, check out the Gorenje. I have yet to find US distribution but they are great looking at a lower price point than the SMEG.

wow. as both a retro fridge and Red Dwarf fan, I do believe these were custom made for me, though why anyone would name anything smeg is beyond me!
