Update: Random number picked; winner has been sent an email; comments closed. Thanks, everyone, for playing. Remember — new contest every month! Kara was the winner of our January contest to win a Love The House You’re In Collage — and that’s her mid-century cutie, above — as immortalized by collage artist extraordinaire Mel Kolstad. To win our February contest, all you have to do is:
Leave a Comment answering the question, “What year was your house built?” If you want to leave a tidbit on its style, that would be cool, too. Please read all the rules here before entering, they all apply.
This month’s contest rewards DAILY readers — I’ll pick a winner late Friday night. Yay on all of you who check in daily!
“I just love Kara’s house! She was very thorough – she included “before” photos as well and you can see how beautiful her house is now! I used real wood veneer for the fence and wood grain paper for the door. The tree was done using tiny punched circles and the sky is actually handmade paper. I did the house in a paper I found that was the PERFECT color!”
Thanks, Mel! Read more about her work on her cool blog, Ephemeraology.

Just a pretty 1957 3 bedroom 1 and 1/2 bath (original pink) mid century modest house that we are backdating & love so very much!

Our house was built in 1948, the same year my husband was born!

1961 ranch down in Florida – guess we’re celebrating a gold anniversary all year! A few things were updated before we got it, but we still have original bathrooms and kitchen cabinets. Yay!

We live in a 1948 ranch, 3 bedrooms, 1 bath. It has been in the family since new. The kitchen is original, wonderful arches, corner windows in the living room. My husband has lived in the house since 1960, when he was 11. I do not think I could pry him out of here! It’s a house with character and charm. I would like to update the kitchen, but when I walk into it, I feel like I’ve gone back to another time…love it!

We bought an 1890 farmhouse/colonial a couple of years ago – our first house! The previous owners must have remodeled in the mid-century/70’s, as our kitchen sports avocado laminate counters, which are actually in perfect shape, and dark wood paneling and dropped ceiling (70’s basement style!). One of the things I liked when we bought the house was the well-maintained, but tiny, Hudee-ring-sink bathroom with faux gold marble vanity counter :). The 4-inch bathroom tile is not pink much to my dismay (it’s beige speckled), but before we moved in, my hubby went out and bought me a pink toilet seat anyway!

Just bought a 1926 California bungalow – we committed the sin of removing the mint green mid-century bath tile, but are replacing with subway and hex as we speak. We are trying to keep things appropriate for the house but only to a certain extent…

It sounds lovely, and totally appropriate!

An Illinois Central Railroad worker’s tenent house, that was where it is in 1901, but it’s probably slighty older. Sold off by the IC right after WWII, it was slightly renovated, *the* bathroom added and the kitchen completely remodeled in the classic Post War fashion. Its a fixer-upper and we’re DIYers so its gonna be quite a project with a lot of work, but I’m up for it, for the love of house.

Our house is a 1947 ranch house that we bought less than a year ago. I was sold when I saw the yellow and aqua kitchen!

1940 war-era tract home in Los Angeles. Love it. Knew it was “the one” right away.
We are preserving everything original that we can, as we may be only the 2nd or 3rd owners.
And with the pale lemon yellow tile with a reddish-orange stripe in it in the kitchen, we just painted the walls and cabinets a pale aqua to match (or, “complement” as I like to say 😉
