It’s time again to enter to win “Love the House You’re In” custom collage by Mel Kolstad. Her latest creation — for last month’s winner, Stacey — is above. Isn’t it amazing…? Imagine what she could do with your house — it’s easy peasy to enter….
To enter this month’s contest, leave a Comment answering the question:
What color paint (or wallpaper design) is on your kitchen walls right now? Optional: Are you happy with it? Please read all the rules here before entering, they all apply.
Just like last month — this contest rewards regular readers, because I’m only leaving it open for 48 hours. I’ll pick a winner on Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, here is what Mel had to say about her latest creation:
Look at this little gem of a house! When Stacey sent me the photos, I knew instantly how I was going to create the collage. The house and the surroundings have a very “ecclesiastical” feel to them – that’s the only way I can describe it. There is just something so peaceful about this place, which is why I used the calming greens and browns to highlight the house, along with the “overcast” sky. The tiny stones were a wonderful challenge to recreate, too! So there you have it. I don’t want to play favorites but this house was REALLY REALLY fun to do! 😀
Thank you, Ms. Mel. You can experience more of Mel’s world at her blog: Ephemeraology

My kitchen…? The kitchen in my 1974 split level is painted avocado and turquoise ( goes with the vintage plates hung on the soffit, and McCoy Harmony ( in blue mist) display on top of the cabinets. My floor is cork, and my cabinets ( at the moment ) are painted black with copper bullseye knobs. someday soon, I hope to replace the cabinets with slab doors…

We have a blue and tan wildflower printed wall paper on the kitchen walls right now. I think it is original to the house circa 1968. It reminds me of an early 70s wallpaper. I don’t really care for it, nor wall paper in general but it’s not real high in the queue as far as projects go right now. Someday….

Its a work in progress. The top is currently primr white and the bottom is half stripped red black and beige tile that was painted white. It will be the red and black tile with the beige (which happens to be the same shade as my Formica tabletop) and the top will be, gasp, greige, the other color in my tabletop. Original (handmade on site (: ) gloss white cabinets with white post war vintage appliances and a faux wood grain laminate countertop, horrid, to the room, seventies cream and brown floral geometric something vinyl flooring that will be replaced with something much darker. Vintage advertising pieces on the walls. It was suppose to be the next project, then a watermain break threw the porch and front yard to the top of the list 🙁

My kitchen is a blah beige right now. Moved into my 1947 ranch house about 10 months ago and the kitchen is one of the last rooms to paint. The counters are yellow with aqua trim so I have yet to figure out the color combo for the walls, cabinets, and gingerbread trim running along the ceiling. Oh, the possibilities . . .

When we bought our house, the otherwise delightful kitchen with vintage tile and all was a tomato-sauce red. The day we got our keys we painted it turquoise and I love love love it. 🙂

My walls are a warm and sunny cream color, which replaced a rather depressing hospital green. I love it because it adds a lot of light. The backsplash is avocado green and harvest gold, so there’s already plenty of color in the room!

I have one tiny wall around the window that has very bland tiny-flowered 80s wallpaper in my circular kitchen. I really want to put up Bradbury + Bradbury wallpaper since it’s such a tiny area and could stand the impact. The rest of the kitchen is just faux-wood laminate cabinets and faux-butcher-block laminate backsplash. Woe is me!

My kitchen walls are all knotty pine, not painted at all. So they’re…knotty pine colored!! 🙂

And I also wanted to add the optional part, which I missed before. We LOVE our kitchen. Admittedly, when we first moved in, I did not worship in the Church of Knotty Pine. My husband fell in love with it at first sight. It was a combination of the kitchen and our funky basement that he uses as a recording studio space that sold him on the house. It took me a while to learn to appreciate the beauty of the knotty pine, but now I’m a convert!

Kitchen walls are plain, boring white. Am hoping to convince my husband within the next few years to paint it something really interesting. Also have a hoosier cabinet in there which is painted white, as well, but it in places there are hints of an earlier paint color–teal or turquoise. Guess what I have in mind for that piece….

I have nothing on the walls and ceiling of my kitchen> NOTHING boo hoo. I’m struggling with wallpaper removal (yes, even on the ceiling) and I’m not quite yet at the “decision point”. The removal was layers of: foil geo inlcuding ceiling > on top of large floral > on top of big smiling green, orange, blue mushrooms! dear lord? It is such a disaster that I’m beginning to think: Armstrong tongue & groove! ugh, what a job! I think it is far beyond my DIY skills, now that I SEE what’s under there > old bathroom green board! but… I LOVE MY HOUSE. Exterior restored & lovely. ?
