Update: Entries (comments) on this story are now closed. Congratulations to winners Renee (vase) and Melissa (apron) — I done spun the random number generator, and their number came up. Prizes awarded! Thanks, everyone, for playing — how much fun to read about everyone’s kitchens! Can you believe it, this Savoy vase, designed by Alvar Aalto, has been in continuous production since 1936 — that’s 75 years. Courtesy of sponsor FinnStyle.com, one reader will win this lovely classic vase this week.
And to double the fun, FinnStyle also is offering a second prize for a second reader: a Marimekko apron of your choice. This Kesatori design is my perky favorite — but I count 8 styles of Marimekko aprons, with a total of 14 possible colors. Continue on for instructions on how to enter to win our one of our two giveaways this week –>

Black and white with red accents!

My 1953 kitchen: We painted our dull olive-green wooden cabinets a soft turquoise (C2 Salty Brine) and we picked Benjamin Moore Cameo White (a soft peach/beige that changes by the moment) for the walls. We kept the pale green linoleum floor. Red kitchen table and red accents. The kitchen is a knock-out. When we have company over, we can’t get them out of the kitchen! I really should learn how to bake cookies.

What a great question! My newly remodled kitchen has light colored wood grain cabinets with glass front uppers accented by our colorful collection of Baur pots. The walls are a clean crisp white flanked by the turquoise of the dining area. The backsplash is unfinished,…and a topic of much discussion. A black granite boxed island with an extended bar top (just enough room for 2 barstools), black/stainless appliances, great decorative fixtures and a few vintage collectibles. Illuminated by cable lighting over the island and upper and lower cabinet lighting. Our house is very modest and the open kitchen design just works.

My kitchen is red and white with some pops of cobalt blue. It is shabby looking in a diner chic sort of way! My favorite part is my vintage red Tupperware canisters.

Kitchen colors include a glass tile backsplash with small tiles from bronze – orange-peach-red…grayish grout for a retro mosaic look. Viking, Finnish and Italian blown glassware in reds, orange and green.blues for a kick!

My kitchen has vintage wood cabinets from the 50s that I have hand lovingly re-finished to their original natural birch/maple glory, white for counter top and back splash with occasional pops of bright red with accessories. I have actually been working on the renovation for almost a year now, I started on Christmas Day 2010 -oops! Taking longer than I expected (almost done), but now I really appreciate the beauty of solid, natural wood. I bought all the cabinets for $20.00 at an estate sale! I seriously consider this my score of a lifetime!!!

Hi Pam – I absolutely LOVE your website, and all things kitschy and vintage! My kitchen is black and white, with stainless appliances, and hints of orange and lime green. The vase wold look fabulous on my Danish table, and I, of course, would look fabulous in that Marimekko apron! 🙂

My kitchen is pine paneling with a little bit of white.
Typical of houses built in the 60’s :).

My kitchen colors are Coca Cola classic–Red on top, black on the edge of the wainscoting, and then white for the rest of the wainscoting. The entire kitchen is 1950’s diner inspired, with knotty pine cherry oak colored cabinetry. I have a cute little window that overlooks into my living room from the kitchen. My kitchen is by far, my favorite room in our house. I love everything about it. I am particularly proud of a recent renovation of adding a dishwasher and then matching the wood that had to be replaced around it, right back to the cherry oak color the house was originally renovated in! Very proud of what we have renovated so far 🙂
I am a lover of aprons. I have a couple, but certainly not a Marimekko. So you can tell what I would lean towards if I were to win 😉 Happy renovating all!!

My kitchen is off white with oak cabinets in a medium toned stain; I live on a military base, so it’s pretty neutral and unexciting, but I’ve decorated with vintage owls and red accents 🙂 And Anne Taintor fridge magnets (“You’ll eat it and like it!”)
