Update: Entries (comments) on this story are now closed. Congratulations to winners Renee (vase) and Melissa (apron) — I done spun the random number generator, and their number came up. Prizes awarded! Thanks, everyone, for playing — how much fun to read about everyone’s kitchens! Can you believe it, this Savoy vase, designed by Alvar Aalto, has been in continuous production since 1936 — that’s 75 years. Courtesy of sponsor FinnStyle.com, one reader will win this lovely classic vase this week.
And to double the fun, FinnStyle also is offering a second prize for a second reader: a Marimekko apron of your choice. This Kesatori design is my perky favorite — but I count 8 styles of Marimekko aprons, with a total of 14 possible colors. Continue on for instructions on how to enter to win our one of our two giveaways this week –>

My kitchen colors are a light yellow with french blue and generous amounts of white – I love the brightness of the yellow, not screaming school bus yellow but more pale lemon, I also, in addition, to using a french blue and white have also used either turquoise of orange accents – Nothing like sunshine in the kitchen when stumbling in to fix the tea and breakfast before work.

We are about to repaint our kitchen and are looking at our green/orange/brown color palette and debating. Wrote our own blog about it here:

Also, not trying to fill this with blog spam, but totally have to share our Marimekko post for other Marimekko obsessed folks!

I want to win the apron! Thanks!

My kitchen has the original cabinetry, laminate, and flooring dating from the construction of the house in 1951. The cabinetry is a figured white laminate patterned to look like pickled wood, the countertops and backsplash are a sort of Tiffany blue solid-color laminate, and the floors are classic vinyl squares in a cream color that approaches yellow. The walls are painted a slightly pinkish cream color. The appliances were changed by a previous owner with a white stove and refrigerator and a stainless steel dishwasher that must have replaced some
greatly missed cabinet space!

Thankfully, my kitchen was beautifully redone before I bought my home. The walls are the same blue as the bottom banner of your blog! Cherry cabinets and stainless appliances, matched with a metallic-flecked navy granite round out the space.

Just painted my 1966 ranch house kitchen jonquil yellow. My dilemma is that I have gorgeous original to house birch cabinets that make the kitchen/dining room SO dark. I had someone give me a good quote to paint them white; I know that’s blasphemous for some, but I have to make some kind of move soon. Either I will take down all of the closets and start from scratch, which is actually cost prohibitive… so I don’t know what I will do. And that is to say nothing of the pink bathroom that came with the house; I won’t trash that but I think I will have to paint the birch cabinets in there white…no shouting please! I really do want to get in touch with as many mid-century home owners as possible as I journey along with my newly-purchased home in western MA. Thanks, Diana

Love the apron, especially! Our kitchen has white vintage cabinets, warm wood floors, chocolate walls, and candy apple red and granny smith green touches. That, along with a LOT of life and color from vintage cookware, international foods, and a toddler, cat and dog!

My kitchen awaits a paint job and new flooring and new counters. I keep changing my mind about color schemes, mainly due to this website. But at the moment I covet a light blue fridge, similar shade VCT floor tiles, turquoise/green cabinet paint, white formica countertops with the shiny trim, and soft yellow walls. Next summer…

What a fun giveaway! I have a warm gold kitchen with blue laminate counter tops and off-white painted cabinets. Stainless (old and new) appliances, and dark and light brown cork checkerboard floor complete the look. The Unikko apron in blue would look fabulous and match my counter tops!

My kitchen features 1957 GE turquoise appliances. I have a stainless steel sink with an origianl food center/blender. My vinyl flooring is charcoal and white. I painted my original cabinets with chalkboard paint and created a slate look by rubbing the chalk all over and working it in. It looks amazing. The cabinet latches are stainless steel. I placed black and white Bauer pottery on top space of the cabinets. The countertops are still a work in progress, as I have not yet decided on a material to replace the formica.

I have cherry cabinets and dark granite countertops. Walls are a very light pink. Lovely. Of course would also have to match the light avocado and burnt sienna in the dining room….
