Update: Entries (comments) on this story are now closed. Congratulations to winners Renee (vase) and Melissa (apron) — I done spun the random number generator, and their number came up. Prizes awarded! Thanks, everyone, for playing — how much fun to read about everyone’s kitchens! Can you believe it, this Savoy vase, designed by Alvar Aalto, has been in continuous production since 1936 — that’s 75 years. Courtesy of sponsor FinnStyle.com, one reader will win this lovely classic vase this week.
And to double the fun, FinnStyle also is offering a second prize for a second reader: a Marimekko apron of your choice. This Kesatori design is my perky favorite — but I count 8 styles of Marimekko aprons, with a total of 14 possible colors. Continue on for instructions on how to enter to win our one of our two giveaways this week –>

In our prairie-influenced ranch, we’re more into earth tones than mod colors. The kitchen is painted a pumpkin pie/cinnamon color “Masada” from Benjamin Moore’s Affinity line. The cabinets are unstained maple, the floor is oak and the backsplash is “Backgammon” (black, tan, ivory & red) from Modwalls. The countertops are Formica’s honed Basalt Slate.
The laundry room is where we indulged our Boomerang fetish. The countertops are mocha java (brown & aqua boomerangs on white) by Wilsonart, the lower cabs and 3 walls are Kona from the BM Affinity line, one wall is aqua, and upper cabs are white.

My colors are green, pink, and black.
LOVE my kitchen though its old, sorta rickty, and could use a bunch of work.
I create lots of yummy foods there and its a place for my friends and I to create memories.

Bright blue linoleum tile floor, black cabinets, charcoal concrete countertops flecked with granite, blue stones and mirror chips. White freshly plastered walls have framed fruit/veg crate labels for great graphic color. Thanks for all you do with your site, it is amazing !

My kitchen is white with maple cabinets and a horrible vinyl floor. The lady before painted avocado green squares on white vinyl flooring to make a checkerboard and the paint has been working it’s way up over the years.. I have had this ugly kitchen for 10 years. I can’t afford to renovate as hoped when I bought the house, but I actually saw a cheap and cherry solution on this blog. Tame teal walls, painted white cupboards and new linoleum. I hope to do it myself this winter. 🙂

The day after we signed on our gorgeous mid-century modern, we had the kitchen gutted. It was not original and it was very ugly. New maple cabinets are finished in light honey with black pulls. The new floor is is a contrasting dark (almost black) bamboo – which is echoed in the dark soapstone counters (with streaks of muted white and some dark green). The Museum Gray walls are lovely at all times of day (this custom color was developed by an exhibit designer who worked for me for a while). This shade of gray includes a few drops of magenta – just enough to keep it lively and warm. (I even repainted an exterior gray wall so that looking out of a floor to ceiling window from the kitchen toward the exterior wall, the color is uniform.) All appliances are stainless – a pain to keep spotless, but the whole effect is clean, serene and in tune with the architect’s nod to Asian influences. This is the first time I have gutted and designed a kitchen, and the years of waiting and learning paid off!
