Update: Entries (comments) on this story are now closed. Congratulations to winners Renee (vase) and Melissa (apron) — I done spun the random number generator, and their number came up. Prizes awarded! Thanks, everyone, for playing — how much fun to read about everyone’s kitchens! Can you believe it, this Savoy vase, designed by Alvar Aalto, has been in continuous production since 1936 — that’s 75 years. Courtesy of sponsor FinnStyle.com, one reader will win this lovely classic vase this week.
And to double the fun, FinnStyle also is offering a second prize for a second reader: a Marimekko apron of your choice. This Kesatori design is my perky favorite — but I count 8 styles of Marimekko aprons, with a total of 14 possible colors. Continue on for instructions on how to enter to win our one of our two giveaways this week –>

The colors in my kitchen?? Well, I have faux brick on one wall (love brick), white cabinets with a grayish countertops……but the coolest thing in my kitchen is the fish tank that I placed in the frame of what used to be an exterior window, but now overlooks our sunroom. It’s not perfect, and it’s not professionally done (yet), but the view from the kitchen is much better with fish and fauna in the way 🙂

Oh my. Well, my walls are silver and green and copper, um. the counter tops and floors wood, fridge and dishwasher are black. Now it gets a little crazy, The stove is gray, white, black and chrome, the cabinets are green, the sink is white with copper colored fixtures, the back splash is sand, there is black trim on green cabinets except for the Hoosier which is blue.
Thrown in around the room are my red pieces, A scale, curtain, pans, candles. Yay.
Sounds crazy, and it might be, but I love it.

My kitchen is green (faux marble) with light wood cabinets and black/white appliances.

My kitchen has honey colored maple cabinets original to the 1955 home. The floor is soon to be something other than the white vinyl… most likely a really neat Mannington Adura floor that looks like grasscloth. Walls are light yellow, appliances are white including the 1952 Tappan Doughboy Delux stove. The countertops are white formica, and everything else in my kitchen is either light blue (Blue Heaven dishes), light pink (small appliances), and light yellow (collection of cookie jars, salt and pepper shakers, and chalkware).
The dining room is all jewel tones from the 40s Hawaiiana era… aprons are good there too! 🙂

Our kitchen has Tiffany box blue walls with Empire red accents and small appliances. The cabinets are painted white with faux granite painted laminate counters. The floor is a white sheet vinyl. We have tried to make the best of what we inherited when we bought the house and until we can do a more extensive makeover.

Retro Lime – honest, that’s the name of the paint!! I painted my 2 main walls this color.
The other 2 walls: A strip of red paint (about 10″) above the cabinets and the “backsplash” are hand painted “tiles” in retro colors. The rest of these 2 walls are covered in cabinets and they are bright white.
I also painted the counter-tops an aluminum/flat silver color.
If you want to see it, I’m happy to send a picture!

The colors of my kitchen are still in the planning stage. After we tore down the awful 1980 mauve and blue wallpaper (the previous owners had even wallpapered the vaulted ceiling!!), we discovered yellow paint. However, I am considering just standard ultra white walls to make the lovely mahogany cabinets pop!

My kitchen is circa 1942 and has the scalloped header from one kitchen cabinet, across the window, and then on to the next cabinet. I LOVE color and have painted the base cabinets a deep teal and the upper units a bold yellow called “saffron”. The walls are a yellow/gold shade called “cornmeal” and a bright orange valence over the sink window makes the room very cheery when the sun shines through.
