Jubilee kitchen wax — aka Johnson’s wax — is back!

pam kueber - Updated: June 15, 2021

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

jubilee
Jubilee kitchen wax — is back. I received the news this morning. (Doesn’t this bottle look so pretty at the top of our homepage?) Here’s the scoop, so far:

The consumer sales representative for Malco, Products, Inc. wrote me:

We just licensed Jubilee® Kitchen Wax from SC Johnson and have it available on our website. I was hoping that you might be able to write about the product relaunch so consumers know they can find it now.

Update 2018, I see it’s now on Amazon, click here (note, links to Amazon may earn me a commission if you buy anything):

I know that this was a very popular wax back in the day. I think that readers have brought it up before as a product they’d like to see back on the market. Here’s what Malco’s website say Jubilee can be used for:

Jubilee is an easy-to-use liquid furniture wax made especially for protecting while cleaning appliances, Formica laminated plastic, ceramic tile, enamel and wood.

Jubilee cannot scratch, never dulls, is stain resistant and puts down a tough, hard shine that protects surfaces while making spills easier to wipe clean. Jubilee removes: grease spots, soot, lipstick, food stains, crayon, fingerprints and yellow cooking films.

I asked the Malco rep right away, “Is it the same formulation as in the way-back-time-machine days?” She quickly replied:

As far as the formula goes, it is the original formula but we did have to change one raw material that was no longer available and made the product VOC complaint. We also re launched the product Grease Relief last year just FYI!  It is available on our website, Amazon and other online stores.

And look closely at the label in the lead photo on this story: “Fatal if swallowed.” READERS, NOTE!

So which is it? Can we use it on laminate counter tops or not? I REMEMBER my mom and grandmas using this when I was growing up. Their kitchens always seemed to shine.

Been looking for Jubilee for 3 years. So glad it is back, need to stock at Walmart and Publix. It was always my favorite cleaner and it did keep stains from setting into surfaces!!!! Great product just get it on shelfs!!!

Jubilee is made with a pesticide. Why would you want to use poison in your kitchen?http://scorecard.goodguide.com/chemical-profiles/product.tcl?reg_nr=00482200008&prod_name=JOHNSON%20JUBILEE%20KITCHEN%20WAX

Did you happen to read the percentage of the stuff in the product? 0.1%, and it’s barely a pesticide to begin with.

Water is a pesticide if you spray them with enough to drown them. I think there are bigger issues to worry about.

Readers: Do your own research on what’s in this product, and others. Consult with the manufacturer.

EPA regulations require any “antimicrobials” or disinfectants to be registered as pesticides. This chemical is used as a disinfectant, much as Lysol or other disinfectants would be used–and of course, what rational person wouldn’t realize that all disinfectants are toxic? Even simple bleach that is used as a disinfectant is highly toxic. So…the use of a very small amount of this disinfectant ingredient in Jubilee is no worse than using Lysol products in your kitchen or bathroom. Here’s the link to the EPA document about the chemical: https://archive.epa.gov/pesticides/reregistration/web/pdf/2045fact.pdf

I would love to see the spray Jubilee too. My mother used this all the time, and I have searched the web too to find this but only in the bottle. Guess the old products are coming back because you can’t bet the good old products. Jubilee all the way for the kitchen.

I love this product, have used it for 50 years and my mother used it before me, I grew up knowing it was the go to product in the kitchen. Will it be available in a spray Again? I found it very convenient. Thank you for great products.

I used Jubilee every night after I came home from my job at NASA and fixed dinner. I have a photo of my oldest son in his shiny peddle car which is sitting in our shiny kitchen. You could see yourself in the chrome. It was about 1958.
