Jubilee kitchen wax — aka Johnson’s wax — is back!

pam kueber - Updated: June 15, 2021

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

jubilee
Jubilee kitchen wax — is back. I received the news this morning. (Doesn’t this bottle look so pretty at the top of our homepage?) Here’s the scoop, so far:

The consumer sales representative for Malco, Products, Inc. wrote me:

We just licensed Jubilee® Kitchen Wax from SC Johnson and have it available on our website. I was hoping that you might be able to write about the product relaunch so consumers know they can find it now.

Update 2018, I see it’s now on Amazon, click here (note, links to Amazon may earn me a commission if you buy anything):

I know that this was a very popular wax back in the day. I think that readers have brought it up before as a product they’d like to see back on the market. Here’s what Malco’s website say Jubilee can be used for:

Jubilee is an easy-to-use liquid furniture wax made especially for protecting while cleaning appliances, Formica laminated plastic, ceramic tile, enamel and wood.

Jubilee cannot scratch, never dulls, is stain resistant and puts down a tough, hard shine that protects surfaces while making spills easier to wipe clean. Jubilee removes: grease spots, soot, lipstick, food stains, crayon, fingerprints and yellow cooking films.

I asked the Malco rep right away, “Is it the same formulation as in the way-back-time-machine days?” She quickly replied:

As far as the formula goes, it is the original formula but we did have to change one raw material that was no longer available and made the product VOC complaint. We also re launched the product Grease Relief last year just FYI!  It is available on our website, Amazon and other online stores.

And look closely at the label in the lead photo on this story: “Fatal if swallowed.” READERS, NOTE!

I loved using Jubilee Kitchen Wax and I am so glad that it has returned! Thanks for the email advisory!

I received a bottle from Vermont Country Store last week and used it on our island countertop (Formica solid surface) today. It left the sheen as-is, rather than changing it from satin to gloss, which is nice. As for it also being a cleaner, I guess I was expecting a miracle when it came to water spots. Some very vigorous scrubbing with the Jubilee on the damp cloth pretty much got rid of them.

But yeah, the aroma is neat. Also, my hands felt silky smooth afterward, thanks to their new wax coating. 🙂

Years ago, we had ‘real’ Formica. Today, we have a derivitive of that, formica “laminate” with indicates a type of “plastic”.

I actually bought the last bottle on the shelf of an old fashioned 5 &10 cent store in Concord Center, Concord, MA, and the propriator told me then this exact same story. I then called the company and was told the only way to buy this was to buy the case. Thank goodness I was able to find a bottle, and I had searched for quite awhile on the internet. Barb J.

I have been gripping to everyone since Johnson’s took Jubliee floor wax and the emamel wax for appliances off the market I loved them back in the 50’s and would love to buy them again now. I have missed them soooo much. Greatest products ever made.

Why does Jubilee say it cannot be used for granite or stainless steel? Does it do harm to these products?

carols, please check the specs of the bottle….or call the manufacturer….

Granite is porous. Foods such as cranberries, butter in its wrapper, anything greasy or with deep colors will leave a stain. Granite is wonderful but you have to use common sense. Hope this helps.

I wonder if it will harm Granite that is sealed? I used it in a small spot and didn’t notice any difference

it’s already been stated at least twice here and in big capital letters on the bottle:

NOT FOR USE ON GRANITE OR STAINLESS STEEL.

My kitchen thanks you for bringing Jubilee back on the market. Her face is shining with pleasure. By the way, if the women on this ‘Kitchen organizer’ video is available – send her over please.

No one mentioned that it cleans leather and vinyl handbags like a dream! Especially the light-colored summer ones that get blue stains on them from rubbing against denim jeans. The handbags look like new

I have used it to clean up the plastic parts inside my car with good results, and it cleaned up the keys (not ivory) on my piano. I wouldn’t use it a lot on leather, as it may contribute to drying, but a little Lexol counteracts that.

I just learned that my precious Jubilee spray kitchen polish is no longer available at my hardware store. After going online and reading your review I am a bit more encouraged that I will be able to find single bottles of this product

    Thanks for the update

see my earlier posting http://www.gracioushome.com has it available by the bottle. I have also seen it by the bottle on eBay, but at GREATLY inflated prices. I bought two bottles to try it back out, but have found many more uses for it, Jubilee is replacing numerous other cleansers at home. I may wind up getting a case, as the per bottle cost is MUCH lower.

Good luck, and you’ll love having it “back.”

I also was delighted to learn of its return, andI just got 2 bottles from Gracious Home. Was down to the last of my old bottle. I’ve had it so long it turned yellow, but still works great. I gave one bottle to my daughter, so she’ll be the third generation devotee in my family… It also works great on leather and vinyl upholstery in the car, and leather handbags.

Please send me my free sample. I’ve been looking for anything to brighten up my dull black Formica countertop. Thank you for your time and patience in this matter.
