Gorgeous! I am in love with those green linen countertops. What a cool treasure trove.

It’s so lovely the way the shape of the cabinet handles echoes the geometric shapes in the Skylark countertops. Sigh.
Carolyn says
Huh…didn’t even notice that, thanks for the eye for detail. This could be akin to the designer featured earlier this year who HAD to have complete control over all the features. It’s the little things like handles that can either sooth your eyes as they glide around a room or darn near poke them out because your brain just stops trying to figure out what’s wrong/not right.

We have green linen countertops in our 1959 ranch house. Unfortunately, they are in very poor shape and will need to be replaced. It is neat to see them “new”. So pretty!

Worth the wait! Absolutely breathtaking. Your father has opened his warehouse to the world and it is a beautiful thing. He sounds like an great guy. I love that he prided himself on having rare stock. Those are the kind of people I love to meet. Perhaps now I can finish my own Youngstown Kitchen. I have some of the chrome edge Skylark counters myself. My personal experience with the White Skylark Formica is that it is beautiful and incredibly durable, standing up to daily use for decades. My counters are at least 60 years old and have been in daily use since then. After years of use, they still look pretty close to these warehoused beauties.

As much as I would love to have these myself, I’m rather hoping they go to a museum so they can be enjoyed by many and inspire others to preserve and enjoy their old homes! There are metal cabinets on the market now (Pam did a story on it a while back) but there will never be another Youngstown Kitchen!

I am lost for words. That green linen….yum.
Kristen says
Wow is this fun to see! I especially love the cabinet in the last picture that opens from either side. And the green linen counters!
Mod Betty says
OMG I am fine with my vintage kitchen but seeing these photos makes me SWOON HARD! Again, like Carolyn above, let the fam know how much we appreciate them doing this, to give these pieces good homes!
Carolyn says
Heh-eh, Youngstown Kitchen “Completely Modern” and the garbage disposal sticker!
I’d like to thank Stephanie and her family for undertaking this monumental task (some might emphasize the “mental” part) and not just calling in the dumpsters. And for sharing.
Have there been any more conversations with their dad such as his original thoughts on buying up all this stuff and what he’d wanted to do with it? Comments by family and friends since they started their auctions? Customer stories (I wondered about some of the fuses)? Maybe you and Pam can give us an update later this year?

When other stores in the Kansas City area went out of business way back in the day, my father-in-law bought out their remaining stock. He told me he bought so much from one business that he even had to leave some there. He said he hired 5 men and 2 tractor trailers to move items to his warehouse and they worked 12 hour days for 7 days hauling and unloading.
Over the years he has gotten a lot of joy when a customer comes into his store and asks for an obscure item which he happens to have in the warehouse. His plans were to provide customers with an item if they came in asking for it. He has sold less than 5 of his 1950’s sinks over the last 15 years.
He knows I sell on eBay so he asked if I could sell some items for him. The sales really took off so he gave me free reign on everything in storage.
By the way, he still refers to the stuff as junk. Makes me chuckle every time he says that.
Kelley says
OMG! These are absolutely gorgeous pieces! And you’re in KC!? Does your FIL still have a store or are you doing everything on ebay now? I’m excited that there’s so much wonderful retro stuff here in town! 🙂

Stephanie, I noticed the “1955 Youngstown Kitchens New Old Stock Blue Sink Cabinet 30x23x34 1/2 Serial # 21468 (B7)” . I think it might be the cabinet that goes under a wall oven or a cooktop. A sink cabinet would have room for plumbing underneath instead of shelves.
