Doing some research about appliances, we bumped into this story in Whirlpool’s press room: Seems like the company is considering introducing a new color, “Sunset Bronze.”
I’m kinda into this Sunset Bronze, because it’s like the drawer fronts in American Brand Pioneer kitchens married the metal dome of my vintage Imperialite pendant light and gave birth to a rosy love child. I’m not in the market for new appliances myself, but if I were working on a retro kitchen project, I might play around with a mood board that considered these. The are different. And they are warm.
The Whirlpool’s PR rep was very helpful in supplying images, but seemed to be towing the line on whether the company is even bringing these to market. I think the story is, Whirlpool showed off this color at some trade show to gauge interest, and now they need to decide. Officially, Whirlpool told us, “We received tremendous positive response to the introduction of Sunset Bronze and are looking forward to bringing it to market in the future. Although we do not have a hard launch date yet, please continue to check Whirlpool.com for updates.” Whether this color makes the cut or not, it is nice to see a major mainstream manufacturer considering mass market options other than stainless, black and white.

I love the color! I am so tired of the cold look of stainless steel. It reminds me of a hospital commissary. This is so fresh and modern, and it goes with everything. I looked and cannot find it though, where do you buy it? Also I have a double wall oven, does it come in that and also the multi-door refrigerator that I want to buy? Of course the inside of the fridge has to be white with clear door bins. I hate the kitchenaid grey interior, makes all the food look rotten before it is. Please someone tell me something fast, I need to buy appliances like yesterday. These are the only ones I have wanted. Thank you

Gj, this is a ‘concept’ color — not for sale yet, if ever…. we’re not sure. Call and ask Whirlpool!

I love it…I also saw cookware in a bronzy tone at Bed, Bath & Beyond, so must be a new trend.

Absolutely! (If we could afford a total swap.)

Well, I guess if beige is a color you appreciate, then beige stainless is a teeny step up from plain stainless.
Color me unimpressed.

Its quite pretty and far more interesting than stainless but just wouldn’t look right in a Mid-Century Modern room.
I do so wish Whirlpool or someone would have the courage to release a popular-priced, authentically-styled mid-century series. I don’t know how it could fail. I’m starting to notice vintage fridges popping up everywhere on TV shows, almost more often than new ones. Something based on the more squared up shapes of the late-50s to early 70s too, not the exaggerated 1940s to early 1950s roundness, with chrome trim and stylish but understated accents.
Even white would be fine, but a pale yellow or sea foam would be the dream. An electric range has to be part of it too, with coil burners, not a ceramic top, and an appropriate analog (or no) clock. While I’m deeply into this fantasy, best of all would be if it were a reissue/continuation of a style that had actually been produced in the past with appropriate emblems.
Sorry I’m rambling on top of a soap box, but I am so anxious to buy something like this! Money is an object but I’d be willing to go into debt if the right thing came along. The current retro alternatives are just too expensive or way too overdone, more like soda shop caricatures of pre-war styles than authentic mid-century, and never an electric range option.

Scott, have you seen the GE Artistry series? https://retrorenovation.com/2013/06/26/retro-kitchen-appliances-ge/

I really like it. And I do not care for stainless. I think this looks sharp. Wonder if it shows fingerprints?
