Kate’s resources for building a pink bathroom — 26 key items on her remodel list

Posted by: Kate • December 4, 2013

pink bathroom sourcesKates-bathroomOne of the best compliments I’ve received about my pink bathroom was when the electrician asked if the wall and floor tiles were original, a remark that made me grin from ear to ear. Constructing a new pink bathroom that looks like it is fresh from 1962 — the year my house was built — was no small feat. Besides the actual work to install everything, I spent many hours sourcing materials, comparing samples and looking for vintage bits and pieces. Yes, sourcing all the products to build a retro pink bathroom is more work than sourcing a similar remodel using white fixtures and tile that’s popular today, but with a little determination, it is possible. For those just starting this journey, you’re in luck. I’ve compiled a list of all my resources — most of which are readily available  — to help you build the retro pink bathroom of your dreams.

Video: Kate’s “penultimate” pink bathroom tour

Posted by: Kate • November 25, 2013

Kates-bathroomThe last time I checked in with an update on my pink bathroom remodel was just after I finished grouting the wall tile. With all the final details now coming together, there will be a bundle more stories to come — with all the nitty gritty details. But this week — since so much progress has occurred — Pam suggested I make a little video giving everyone the “penultimate” tour. Yes, Pam has expanded my vocabulary with this new-to-me word, which means “next to last” — as in, now it’s time to add the final perceptible particulars to put my pretty pink potty palace perfectly in place.Heck yeah there is more →

Kate researches the best bathroom exhaust fan — plus, a video of “the toilet paper test”

Posted by: pam kueber • October 10, 2013

With prices ranging from $13 up to $250+… a laundry list of features to choose from… and deciphering CFMs required for your space, selecting the right exhaust fan for your bathroom can be a dizzying task. I recently did extensive research to select bath fans for both my new pink bathroom and as a replacement fan for my hall bathroom. My ultimate choice: the NuTone UltraSilent 110 CFM bathroom exhaust fan. In this story, I share my research into the whys and wherefores. And in the one-minute video above, I try reader MattS’s toilet paper test. Yup, my new fan works great.
