Catherine’s vintage Drexel stereo – and an update on her other projects

Pam Kueber - Updated: February 4, 2019

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

Catherine is so young – and so sucked into the retro renovation vortex – I love it! She absolutely positively gets this month’s Ann Landers award for tenacity and decisiveness!

hey pam! i had to share with you pictures of my new drexel piece i found on craigslist for $25!!! it matches my other declaration pieces, but have never seen anything like it. it has a motorola turntable inside and three speakers!! i haven’t even got it in the house yet, but i am so excited i had to share it with you 🙂

also!!! tomorrow im picking up a new stove for my kitchen renovation, a chambers 90c! still searching like crazy for more youngstown kitchen cabinets. if you come across any in the midwest let me know 🙂
thanks! take care,
catherine

I have an identical Motorola Drexel console. Not sure if yours works or not, but definitely find someone to tune it up for you, change the tubes and check the wiring. The sound quality of these old systems is amazing. You’ll also note in back are some RCA input jacks for the auxillary reel-to-reel tape players – You can buy a set of cables at Radio Shack, and run your iPod or other MP3 player through it. Enjoy!

Motorola had Drexel cabinets for a few years in many styles. That was one of their selling points, and Motorola was one of the best products on the market. Yours is a beauty! I found one a couple of years ago, but it was empty!

Hey, akcollar, do you have a scanner or can you shoot a digi-photo? If you send it to me – I would be happy to posted it. Sounds wonderful!

I have an ad for Motorola that shows this Drexel record cabinet! There’s a couple dancing in their mid-century modern home, with a pool outside.
