shiny-brite-holiday-wreathe-georgia-peachezUpdate: Congrats to  winner Danielle! I went thru the entries, pruned duplicates, spun the random.org random number generator, found a winner, and she emailed me back tout suit. Thanks, everyone, for your lovely comments — and come back soon for more contests and retro fun!

So, I have been in the “let’s do some giveaways” mood. And I was thinking, yes, the holidays are not too far away. And, golly, everyone always goes crazy over Georgia Peachez’ (aka Suzy’s) Shiny Brite wreathes. So I asked Suzy to make one up for me (shown above)… I bought it from her… and it’s sitting on her dining room table itching to go to its new home. YUP: One week contest now “live” to Win this Wreath. Click on through for the rules and to enter ->

How to make a wreath using vintage Christmas tree ornaments — Suzy’s instructions

I bet we’ll get a lot of entries for this one — and there can only be one winner. So, the idea behind posting this giveaway right now is to remind you creative types to think ahead … make sure you’re collecting a whole bunch of vintage ornies … and gear up to make one of these yourself maybe. I know that in a lot of thrift stores across America, they start pulling out all the vintage ornaments for sale pretty soon. Or, maybe you’ve been collecting them all summer? That said, I know a lot of us *think* we’ll do a project… but never do… so keep an eye on Suzy’s blog because she keeps making wreaths all fall… she posts them for sale… and they sell out fast!

In the following super-popular story, Suzy showed us how she does it — how to make a wreath out of vintage Christmas tree ornaments:

Thank you, Suzy — you are such an inspiration!

What a gorgeous wreath! It makes me smile just to look at it. So warm and cheery, I wish it was Christmas already. I’m going to start collecting retro balls and ornaments so I can make my own in case I don’t win. Thank you for this and all your other postings. I’m loving living the mid-century retro life.

This wreath is wonderful – perfect for my new abode near my son. I’m sure the competition will be stiff – better go sleuth some retro gems to make one! Thanks for a terrific website.

This so much reminds me of the ornaments of my childhood. I’m going back to my roots it seems. I grew up in a 1950’s ranch home in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, and while I could not afford a home there now, we do go up there every now and then to see the old homestead. It looks so small, but so perfect. We are planning to move from CA to SC, and I am definitely going to find my mid-century there! Love the blog and appreciate knowing that there are others who love the older and finer things in life like I do.

I’ve been coveting one of these since you first posted about them, Pam! I love all of Suzy’s other Etsy creations, too. How fabulous would this wreath look for our first Christmas with the aluminum tree I got at an antique mall last spring?

This is a super idea for a wreath that can be used year after year. Thanks for putting it on your site. Retro perks me up so much!

Okay, this is for me, I’ve had seven surgeries on my right hip. Two surgeries under my belt at 4. At 18, an artificial hip put in 1977, then replaced in 1981, 1997, 2006….and finally taken out July 2, 2012 at Stanford Hospital. HIPLESS, (spell check can’t find my new word) and I sew, live to sew, usually, baby bibs, and a few other artsy things. Got word last week that I may get a brand new hip, Nov 6, 2012…the eighth time for the start of recovery. At 54 a girl needs to walk, to sew, to be free from searching the web. Your site made me smile so big, and think of sugar and spice, because your so nice. thank you, K.
