Update: Congrats to winner Danielle! I went thru the entries, pruned duplicates, spun the random.org random number generator, found a winner, and she emailed me back tout suit. Thanks, everyone, for your lovely comments — and come back soon for more contests and retro fun!
So, I have been in the “let’s do some giveaways” mood. And I was thinking, yes, the holidays are not too far away. And, golly, everyone always goes crazy over Georgia Peachez’ (aka Suzy’s) Shiny Brite wreathes. So I asked Suzy to make one up for me (shown above)… I bought it from her… and it’s sitting on her dining room table itching to go to its new home. How to make a wreath using vintage Christmas tree ornaments — Suzy’s instructions
I bet we’ll get a lot of entries for this one — and there can only be one winner. So, the idea behind posting this giveaway right now is to remind you creative types to think ahead … make sure you’re collecting a whole bunch of vintage ornies … and gear up to make one of these yourself maybe. I know that in a lot of thrift stores across America, they start pulling out all the vintage ornaments for sale pretty soon. Or, maybe you’ve been collecting them all summer? That said, I know a lot of us *think* we’ll do a project… but never do… so keep an eye on Suzy’s blog because she keeps making wreaths all fall… she posts them for sale… and they sell out fast!
In the following super-popular story, Suzy showed us how she does it — how to make a wreath out of vintage Christmas tree ornaments:
Thank you, Suzy — you are such an inspiration!

I treasure my vintage ornaments from my grandmothers’ trees. This wreath is great!

I love these wreaths. I attempted to make small size wreaths over the Summer. And things did not go as planned. It really does take talent to get these gorgeous wreaths, to look balanced. My looked lopped sided as heck. Plus it requires even more talent not burn off a couple layers of your skin, off your finger tips. 🙂

My brother has a fabulous silver Christmas tree, complete with a green, blue and red color wheel. I found it years ago at a resale shop in perfect condition and knew it was the gift for him. His favorite color is orange, however, so I trolled ebay and Craigslist for months searching for vintage orange ornaments, not exactly the color of the season. I bid on or ordered almost anything I could find in decent shape. The result was an ecclectic set of ornaments in various shades of orange. My favorites were the glass tree topper and the orange and red striped bulbs. He loved them and now has a monochromatic christmas tree each year. He also wraps his spectacular mid century home in a giant orange bow.
