Video tutorial — Make a vintage Christmas ornament wreath — 3 hours into 4 minutes time lapse wow!

Kate - Updated: May 12, 2016

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

With all the fun Pam is having making vintage ornament wreaths, I wanted to get in on the action too. So I reread her tutorial and 30+ tips to make a vintage ornament wreath… busted out my glue gun — and my camera… and dialed up the epic to create this new Retro Crafty video. This video how-to is a doozy folks. There are oodles of ornaments, time lapse wreath arranging, and a cameo appearance from my helpful assistant Leo.

Yes, making this wreath was a whole lotta fun. Now I understand why Pam has gone into ornie overload. So sit back, relax and watch me cram three hours of work in to four-and-half minutes of action-packed magical merry wreath making. Thanks again to Georgia Peachez — queen o’ the vintage ornie wreaths — for the inspiration and for her generosity in sharing her wreath-making tips with us. If you doubt you’ll ever get this retro crafty, we think the best place to keep up with her wreaths for sale is via her Facebook page.

Looks great…I like the pink, orange tones (at least, that is what I see on my screen). I really like watching your how-to crafting videos…you seem to have a knack for them…some I have seen on ytube are irksome when they don’t edit so you’re watching 20 min. of gluing or they stick their head over the project blocking the view. Yours are actually relaxing. 😀
There used to be crafting shows on t.v. (Carol Duvall), but I guess those went away for all the “smash & flip shows”.

Great job Kate!! I have so many great old ornaments. I am going to save this & try it this summer when it will be fun to get into the spirit & not have so much else that needs to be done.

These are so fun. Nothing really beats that rosy red of vintage ornaments (and dog cameos!). Just did my own look at some mid century decor here: http://thehouseofpancakes.com/2013/12/04/the-noble-tannenbaums/

Great tutorial, Kate, but Leo didn’t get enough exposure! For those of you who, like me, just don’t have any old ornaments, the salvage website seconduse.com has some in the miscellaneous section. The search does not bring them up, for some reason. Not cheap but some of them are really neat.

The Leo exposure in the video was unplanned. There I was, shooting the scene, and Leo heard me shake the martini glass and thought I was making snacks right there at the dining room table. Silly dog! I had to work it in somehow! 🙂

Now THAT was fun! And actually very helpful, too. I’m hoping to make my wreathe(s) this sometime this next week and I KNOW I’ll be referring back to video quite a bit 🙂 Oh, and btw, I don’t think I would’ve thought to glue the garland to the actual form – I probably would’ve just wrapped it around and called it a day – so already that’s one tip I know I’ll be using!
