This one is pretty darn awesome: A vintage bathroom vanity — with an ancient Greek-themed design inlaid into the sparkle laminate surface. Or so we think. I recall that in my college Philosophy 101 class I learned from Plato that, “The rare is the good.” This one appears to be oh-so-rare. So this one is oh-so-good. And: Oh-so-appropriate that it is Plato who tells us so.
Here’s the property listing, in West Orange Township, New Jersey:
- Price: $379,900
- Year Built: 1952
- Bedrooms: 4
- Bathrooms: 2
Kinda feels like this vanity and bathroom could go in this 1956 Massachusetts time capsule house we featured a few years ago.
This listing is from realtor Leslie Allen — who recognizes a coolio thing when she sees and gave us these photos for our archive. Thank you, Leslie!

This is a truly fabulous bathroom fixture, how cheery! Many designs of today are so serious, I love the eclectic flair of pieces like this from years past, some designer from long ago had great imagination and creativity….and a sense of humor!!

I really like the vanity and wonder how they did it–the detail of the laminate inlaying, I mean. It makes me think that laminate was more than a practical covering–it was an architectural art form. The colors are lovely, especially with the blue sinks.
I’m disappointed that the slide show has only three photos, and the bathrooms are not included on the listing. Don’t you love the garage door?

I thought the same thing. Why does the listing only show 3 photos? And not the bathroom 🙂 I was looking forward to seeing what else might be in there!

I love it! If I had that sink I would wear a toga every morning while shaving.

This may be the greatest bathroom ever seen. Does it come with Windex?

Love this! The kind of quirkiness I enjoy. And very well done on top of all that. Good looking graphics.

New Jersey real estate is a wealth of “taste specific” expressions of design taken to the nth degree. Lots of over-the-top time capsules of all periods to be found. Many sneer at the concept of “neutralizing for resale” in New Jersey.

‘Many sneer at the concept of “neutralizing for resale”‘ — YAY!

OPA! Love it! This is truly inspired. Do you think the previous owners might have been Greek? If so, this must have been a little taste of a glorious vacation on the islands. Charming, thank you for posting.
