Vintage wallpaper festival continues – with another source, courtesy Femme1

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

50s vintage wallpaper

At some point this year, there will be a quiz, so please pay attention. Now what was my sole New Year’s resolution? To rid all retro renovators of any latent fear of wallpaper, and embrace this most wonderful of decorative gifts, of course!

In the continuing hunt to help Sebastian, Femme1 also found this site, hannahstreasures.com. 500 different papers, endless fun. I personally have a super mushy soft spot for ‘novelty prints’, so let’s look at some of those today!

Considering that this vintage wallpaper is $100 a roll, best be on the lookout locally and snap up any finds. If you have the greenstuff, though, why not recycle it into right into this:

Yes, a shame. I recommend taking a look at Thibaut – Small Print Resources – everything is online, very fun and convenient. And Sanderson – I haven’t looked at their books recently, but in the past when I was wallpaper hunting I found stuff I kind of liked. Again – look for Small Prints.

The rabbit had good taste, I guess!

I recently looked through some current wallpaper books with a relative, who is considering wallpapering a bathroom. Nothing is as charming as these prints are.

Oh, and here’s the funny thing. I’m really not looking for wallpaper for my house! Talk about jumping on the bandwagon.

I do have a funny story—years (and years) ago, my husband and I bought an 1896 log house in West Virginia and restored it. I put up some cheery yellow vintage-y wallpaper in the dining room. My little girl had a pet rabbit that lived in the house and used a litter box (really! they’re pretty smart). We came home one day and the rabbit had taken a liking to the wallpaper and had gone around the whole room stripping off pieces and eating it. Lovely.

I love that bottom one, too, Sue. Finding out what people are charging for vintage wallpaper has made me interested in searching out some local sources for old wallpaper. A very old paint and wallpaper store that was on our town square moved a few years ago, and I wish I’d known enough then to ask if I could go through their attic! I have found a roll or two at thrift shops (which I visit fairly often), but nothing like these gems.

Oh! I collect vintage 50’s tablecloths! I’ll have to do a post on that! 🙂

I really like these wallpapers, particularly the very last one. I have been looking around for something like this (at a much lower price). Thanks, Femme 1, for your wallpaper finds.
