Sparkling *new* vintage appliances occasionally turn up. Here’s another one from awesome retro-spotter Jason — who pointed us in the direction of this fantastic vintage 1956 Amana Stor-More refrigerator/freezer from Ebay seller docoxco. This sparkling gem has been used as a floor model in different appliance shops for the last 57 years — and still contains the display food from 1956. How’s that for an amazing find? And — it’s on ebay right now, it could be yours.
From the Ebay listing:
This unit has been in an old appliance store as a display model. Never been used. It comes with the display food items, the ice cube trays still wraped in original wrapping and owners manual. It does have some very small chips on the front door and they are pictured. The unit is in very good condition. We did plug it in and monitor it for 24 hours. Its runs like a dream and holds temps properly.
This fridge is currently for sale: [long gone]
The Fridge was on display at Edwards of Douglas [Wyoming], the owner passed away approximately 20 years ago. I obtained the fridge from (the owner’s) son 15 years ago. The fridge was on display in his store for 20 years or so, then was moved to a storage area and just sat there. When I obtained it from (the owner’s son), I also displayed it for about 10 years. I then moved it to storage in my back room. I did not want the unit damaged by children opening and closing and climbing on the unit. I decided recently that maybe it would just be better where someone could take better care of it and possibly even use it. The unit had never been plugged in, so we plugged it in and monitored for 24 hours, It held perfect temps. We also obtained at the same time, a model 15 Amana freezer. It also is in very good condition. It does have a few nicks and scratches, but for the most part is real good. I also plugged it in and it maintained perfect temps.
Wow — it even has the original owner’s manual. The inside of this fridge is lined with mint green trim, decked out with golden shelving and aqua bins. Also, can look to the left — the vintage Amana freezer looks pretty blingy, too.
It must have been called the “Stor More” model because of how much extra storage they crammed into the door. All the nicely ordered bins are so pretty.
The freezer door has quite a lot of door storage space, too — still packed with vintage display frozen foods. Also note — the freezer is on the bottom — which I am thinking was not common in 1956 (am I right Pam?).
Mega thanks to Ebay seller docoxco for sharing this story, and for giving us permission to show are archive his photos of this fabulous fridge.

Gorgeous…a little pricey, but hopefully there’s someone out there who’ll have the dough-re-mi- to buy it. I own a vintage GE fridge, which
I get compliments on all the time. I also own a Chambers range, love that too. Old appliances are great, they simply don’t make them like they used to.Last year I purchased an 1100 dollar washing machine for a rental home I own, and it broke in two years, and the cost to replace it was exactky as much as the purchase price!
I’m still kicking myself over a GORGEOUS pink range I saw on the street at least 20 yrs ago..my advice to anyone: if you can find a good old appliance, GET IT

Wow, what a find! I love the inside color, the bottom freezer, the shallow counter depth and everything about it! We used to have the same fake food from the fifties up until 2008 in our GE fridges for sale – old juice cans, fruit, eggs in cartons, and even old gallon milk bottles with paint inside for milk and metal bale handles. We even had a big fake turkey for the ovens that was used many a time for school plays! Sure brings me back!

They just don’t make ’em like they used to, do they? Wow. Never been plugged in and it works today just as it was designed to work in 1956. Solidly American.
My GE Spacemaker has run continuously for 50 years, 30 of which I can vouch for personally. Whenever it departs for Refrigerator Heaven, I plan to hold a memorial service for it. It’s a behemoth compared to this little cutie, but I truly adore it. I hope this Amana babe gets a great new home.

When you have something as unusual and wonderful as this, you can ask whatever you want for it! He bought it, he stored it for 15 years, he has to pay fees on the listing and figure out how to get it to the buyer. I think he is right to aim high–he can always lower the price if he needs to! For every gem you sell for a high price, you have a bunch of duds you almost have to give away, so, while I understand people’s disappointment it’s out of their price range, I just want to put in a word to defend the seller and his pricing. It’s a lot more work to sell online than most people realize.

Agreed. It is very pricey (a new Amana being about the cheapest fridge you can buy) but a NOS appliance that is 57 years old and in mint condition is a rarity indeed. And rare = valuable. If they were a dime a dozen, we probably wouldn’t all be drooling over it!

Yup, when it comes to rarities, it’s what the market will bear. You cannot blame this seller for trying. If he doesn’t find a buyer at 8K, he will lower his price until he does. Viva micro economics supply & demand curves.

I’ve always wanted vintage appliance, but the older fridges never seem to have enough storage. Not a problem here! If I had the cash, I’d be all over this thing.

Wow what a beauty. I wish modern appliances had some modicum of style.
There’s a pink appliance of some sort sitting over in the repair yard of a local repair shop. Not sure if it’s a fridge or a stove/convection oven combo. I should go sneak a peak at it.

Yeah, but.
Eight THOUSAND dollars?!?

This looks very similar to the Deluxe Reading version made for Barbie in the 1960’s. My guess is that people who do have $9000 to spend on a fridge would usually go for a modern stainless instead. A beauty nonetheless. Don’t forget to play lotto before the listing ends, lol!
