1960s starburst-white and orange laminate kitchen

pam kueber - Updated: April 8, 2019

Retro Renovation stopped publishing in 2021; these stories remain for historical information, as potential continued resources, and for archival purposes.

1960s kitchen with wall refrigerator freezerHere is a kitchen style that we have not seen featured on the blog before, as I recall. It’s a kitchen with cabinets made from two contrasting colors or designs of laminate. In this case: A starburst white laminate is the “field” color — and yo, a Brady Bunch orange is added to the Revco built-in refrigerator-freezer, wall cabinet doors and as a pop of trim. This kitchen is for sale — click on through for more yummy photos…1960s-kitchenTake notice of the vintage woven window shade and the dishwasher — lovely!

1960s-orange-and-starburst-laminate-kitchenI cropped this shot to show that the orange is laminate — not paint. You gotta love the Fred Flinstone floor, too!

(Remember, you can replicate this style — although not exactly, and not in coppertone — with knobs and starburst backplates available from Rejuvenation.

1960s turquoise bathroom with mermaid shower door

The person who is selling the kitchen also sent me photos of the bathroom. It also is getting gutted, and she is happy to sell all the bathroom hardware as well. Hall Mack fish towel rings! A mermaid shower door (note: Be aware of the potential un-tempered glass issue — consult with a professional.) She even mentions: A toilet set embedded with pennies… And do I spy with my little eye maybe a nice mirror with built-in cosmetic box?

Here is the craigslist link, all this stuff is on Long Island, NY, no prices “make an offer”: 1960s laminate kitchen cabinets.

Amazing. Absolutely amazing. I’ve never seen lilac fixtures. Awesome.

I wish they could list the house here first, so it could be appreciated as is!

OMGosh! I am desperately trying to reconfigure my current layout, but I think it is a job too big for us… DH would not be happy. 🙁

    It’s awesome!

I’ve never been a fan of people who buy something like this and see it as a “Let’s get rid of it!” project. If you don’t like it, DON’T BUY THE HOUSE!

If this stuff was dirty, broken and moldy, then definitely. Now, while this style isn’t my own, I appreciate it anyway and would love to see it in person!

DITTO! Got me swingn’ from a flag pole. If you can’t appreciate it, then just move on. Better for some people just to start from scratch.

Always gut wrenching whenever I watch those ‘makeover’ shows and the host always say, ‘We should get rid dof this ‘tired’ look…” Hey it’s not tired, it’s a work of art!

That is such a fabulous kitchen! I hope someone can save it and give it a good home.

I love that starburst laminate. It looks a lot like Textolite. I wish someone would start making glittery laminate again – I would love to put it in my kitchen!

If that were my kitchen, I’d pledge my eternal love to it and never let it go.

I would LOVE this! Unfortunately, my husband , not so much… :o(
He likes new, and I like old! What do you do? Our house is eclectic!

Oh, my goodness. My second home had the same lilac fixtures – we loved them! And that fridge & freezer – I’ve wanted exactly that for years. I had no idea that someone actually made them. I should call about it.
