ENTRIES NOW CLOSED. Update: Congratulations to Lynne, winner of this year’s Georgia Peachez wreath. It turns out, we’ve featured Lynne and her knotty-pine + pink bathroom in this story!  Thanks, everyone, for playing — we’ll do it again next year! P.S. My friend Danielle and I made our own wreaths last night — they turned out FABULOUS! Story to come.

I know: According to authentic retro etiquette, it’s way too early to talk Christmas decorations. But if you are thinking about doing fabulous things with vintage Shiny Brite ornaments, you only have so many days left to ornie-hoard and hot-glue. Or… if you know you are never gonna get this crafty yourself — here’s your chance to win our super famous annual giveaway: A vintage Shiny Brite ornament wreath made by the the queen of Shiny Brite crafting, the talented and generous Georgia Peachez. Suzy of Georgia Peachez
Suzy aka Georgia Peachez

Every year, as a gift to readers, I buy a wreath from Suzy aka Georgia Peachez for this giveaway. Thank you, readers, for being THE BEST. I luv you! Suzy always jumps to help out. She gave me a great price (her wreaths now sell for $250! each!) — and quick as I asked, she made this special wreath just for us. She said:

Pam, I made a wreath with my two favorite elements, a knee hugger elf and a reindeer.

Heck to the yeah, knee hugger elf and reindeer! Thank you, Suzy!

When I was a kid it was putting up the tree…and all the Christmas specials.. in TV and the wonderful toy catalogs that would come in the mail, and of course Chritmas morning!!! Now that I’m older it’s more about the family and food and spending time together. 🙂

One of my favorite parts of Christmas is the little vintage elves like the one in the wreath. Growing up we had a elf in a gazeboesqe basket that hung the living room doorway during the holidays. He would twirl and twirl and was always out of reach. Unlike the recling and genie pose elves with detachable heads that hung out on the coffee table. My parents passed away when I was stationed in Europe for my first assignment in the Army and much of those fun decorations from my child hood were lost

I love trying to find/make the perfect gift for someone and seeing their reactions when they receive it….I only ever had 1 complaint…and the smells, tastes and generosity we experience during the holiday season!

I put in a comment on day one but I no longer see it so I wanted to make sure I had added a comment. 🙂

My favorite part about Christmas is wrapping the gifts! When I was little I even wanted to be a professional gift wrapper! 🙂

My favorite thing about the Holidays is knowing that I’ll get to be with family and friends that I haven’t gotten to spend much quality time during the year. I love playing Santa by giving creative gifts–usually baskets of a variety of cool stuff geared specifically to the taste and interests of the recipient. I always work within my fairly limited budget and everybody gets at least one repurposed item, and that’s usually the thing he or she seems to admire the most of all the gifts. Always so much fun!

My favorite part of the holidays is making most of my Christmas presents! Plus the birthdays that seem to crop up around the holidays, and boy do we have a lot of them! That’s my favorite, the making! And the sharing.

I can remember the magic of being a child and feeling that anything is possible. The excitement of Christmas Eve, the cold weather, your breath on the frozen windowpane as you looked upwards towards the sky, squinting to try and catch a glimpse of Santa in his sleigh. The Sears Wishbook and picking out toys, especially those limited edition Barbie clothes, and then unwrapping your gifts on Christmas morning, delighted by the wanted surprises, like the Barbie Country Camper and the Malibu dolls. It truly was a magical time!

My favorite part of Christmas is our Christmas Eve tradition-our church Christmas pageant followed by the Chinese Buffet!

Nostalgia galore. Retro renovation makes me homesick for a childhood long past!
