My new hunka hunka: A vintage, lighted display clock that surely was used in a store that sold Geneva cabinets. I jumped on this Buy-It-Now the moment I saw it on ebay. I already have a Geneva kitchen merchandising banner in my kitchen full of 1963 Geneva kitchen cabinets, and this was a perfect addition.
As promised, the case lit right up and the clock started turning the moment I turned it on.
The only thing is: Its operation is controlled by the plug. I need to get an adapter with an on/off switch so that I don’t have to plug it in all the time. The clock will always be wrong. But that’s okay. It’s the whole lighted aspect, along with the clock turning, that makes this a super duper piece of sales memorabilia.
Right now I have the clock set standing on the counter, in the corner where my Treasure Craft cookie jar set has sat for 10+ years. The clock is designed to stand, or, there are openings in the back to hang on the wall. It’s just 24″ wide, so I have several great spaces in the kitchen where it could fit if I hang it. I need to think about where to place it for the long term, including how the plug fits in.
The clock was made by Price Brothers Inc. of Chicago and New York.
Hey. Chicago. Traveling to Kentucky for my father’s 80th birthday, I picked up the book “Devil in the White City.” What a fantastic book — riveting and such amazing research — it won a bunch of awards. But warning: Serial killer also involved. The book the TRUE STORY of all the famous architects and landscape designers behind the creation of the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Their “White City” World’s Fair that was an architectural and entertainment marvel. But ACK, at the same time as the fair, the “devil” nearby was Dextering young women, and author Erik Larson weaves that depravity in, too. Like I said, true story — stranger than fiction. I’m 90% done. Highly recommended!

That clock is pretty awesome. I have a Syroco sunburst that is perpetually at 6:04 am/pm. LOL
Now I need to read that book! I hate to admit it because it feels so wrong, but …I’m a fan of serial killer stories.

Ah, yes. EvilBay rides again. My checkbook considers MrEBay to be truly evil! It’s filled with all that stuff I didn’t know I needed until I saw it, but once I did, I couldn’t survive without it! And my postal carrier isn’t wild about them, either — all those little envelopes and packets to keep track of. Ha! But my stash in my jewelry design bench is exploding and I love the assortment. It develops creativity for me to have what I want/need accessible when I want/need it. All I need for my next home is to convert a formal living room sized space into a studio. Makes me yearn, again, for previous design trends. Today I looked at 2 brand new, being framed, homes for sale. Right. One had no living room, the other had no dining room. Both were described as being designed for entertaining. So where do you put your guests, eh? Give me older fashioned but functional, please! Pam, I agree with Vince. Find a way to keep the clock part running. “Form follows function”, remember?! Great find! Enjoy it!

That clock is so cool, and what a great thing to have in a Geneva kitchen! Is there any way you could retrofit a small (1.5W) LED bulb inside? Then you wouldn’t have to unplug it, and you’d have a night light in your kitchen. If you our yours ar anything like me, there’s snacking to be done at night.

I picked up the devil and the white city a few years ago for a dollar at a library sale whilst on my first ‘alone’ vacation in a remote location. Scared myself! I’ve recommended that book many times over the years and Have been waiting patiently for the movie for quite a while-one of my favorite teamings of DiCaprio and Scorsese as you noted. Thanks for the Netflix suggestion. I shall scare myself later with that!

Lovely clock! I have a similar Bulova clock from my uncle’s old jewelry store. It has two long fluorescent tubes inside that were built with a dedicated pullchain for the light fixture. It sits proudly in my woodshop and runs like a champ!
I often turn on the fluorescents and dim the rest of the shop just so I can relax in the amber glow and listen to the calming hum of the fixture’s ballast and the gentle whir of the gears in the Lanshire clock movement!

Yes, we are doing that too! It’s like a fireplace or an aquarium!

Nice find! I wonder if you could get a professional to modify the wiring and install a switch, so that you can keep the clock plugged in and be able to switch the light on and off? Those old electric clocks that use the mains frequency to keep time are extremely accurate, so it would be cool to keep it running.

Vintage Clocks are wonderful. I hate the battery operated ones. I am in the process of looking for a plug-in myself. Put them up…plug them in and enjoy them. I wish they still made wind up alarms…I haven’t found a good vintage one. But they were wonderful…Geneva is the brand steel kitchens I wish I had…my Grandmother’s whole kitchen was like that and I loved it.

Congrats on another wonderful addition to your kitchen. When you get it rewired and placed in it’s forever spot, I would love to see the pics.
