Oh so pretty: The Nevamar Venus laminate pattern — in four colors, including turquoise, lemon yellow, beige, and white. The atomic pattern in this vintage is delightful, and the colors are retro-lovely.
2019 Update: Nevamar saw this story… contacted me… and reintroduced the Venus pattern (and more) from Kyrsten’s chain! Wow! See my story on the new line here.
Thanks to Kyrsten, who found a whole chain of vintage Nevamar at a thrift shop. She’s actually selling the chain to me for the *museum*. Meanwhile, she also sent photos, which I’ll feature bit by bit. Above: Dreamy Turquoise Venus.
Looks like Kyrsten has a vintage glitter laminate countertop already, lucky her! White Venus fits right in!
Above: Lemon Venus. Looks like the starbursties are three shades of yellow/gold — nice!
Above: Beige Venus. Very nice.
Readers: Alas, you can’t buy this any more. It’s a vintage design no longer made.
But there are quite a few patterned laminate options out there. To see them, dive into:

Thanks, Krysten!

Woo hoo! So happy to see these here! I’m in a Facebook group with Krysten and suggested she send them your way, so glad she did!

Thank you, Whitney!!!

Oh yes…!
I have this kitchen countertop!!
And…it’s almost in perfect condition.
Fleck, fleck and more fleck!
However, that turquoise, well…that HAD my name all over it!!
Thanks for the share Pamela!
Pam Kueber says
Wow! Lucky you!

Barbara, you are one lucky duck! But never wash that counter with bleach or scrub with abrasive cleansers! As long as it has the clear laminated coat on top, it will be fine. I actually wondered when we moved in whether or not I could revive my sparkly counters by painting with several coats of polyurethane. Too late now. But if anyone has tried that, let me know.
Mary Elizabeth says
Krysten, I think your countertop is the same one that was in my 1959 kitchen when I moved in. It has black, silver gray, and gold flecks, right? Alas, I had to replace it (cover it over, actually) because the original homeowner washed it twice a week with bleach for 50 years. 🙂

What? You aren’t happy with today’s contemporary stock offerings of 76 marginally different laminates in beige granite, some other beige granite or yet another beige granite pattern?!
Our society tends to look down on the consumer choices of decades past, but what an amazing array of colors, patterns and models we had to choose from post-war.
And while Wilsonart can custom print some impressive stuff in the VDL, gold glitter is gone forever, it seems 🙁
Pam Kueber says
Don’t forget greige marble! 🙂

Oh turquoise glitter, how I loved thee! It was in the kitchen of my last house. What a nice trip down memory lane on a nasty winter’s day.

I wish they would bring back these glamorous glitter laminates! My wet bar has vintage 1961 jet black glossy laminate with silver glitter. It looks like a starry night. I think it’s Formica.
Allen says
This is something that Wilsonart could add to their VDL as long as the copyright on the design has not been maintained.
Robin, WA says
Aw man! For a brief, glorious second I was hopeful these were available today. How awesome would it be to see this in the wild?!
J D Log says
That looks great, I would love to see an example of that in the wild
Ms. Vel-Vida says
Wow, such an array of colors. I’m all about the red glitter sample! I could totally picture that in a red themed kitchen. I love seeing samples from when people weren’t so afraid to use bold and bright colors.
